Take Action on Business Rates!
There has been a great effort to urge the Chancellor of the Exchequer to take action on London businesses rates. Sadiq Khan, council leaders, the APPG for London and business groups including the EETG have been calling upon Philip Hammond and Theresa May to ease the burden of the new revaluation which sees a 30% increase or more to hit London businesses in April 2017.
If you run a small business you can help make a difference too by tweeting your own rates increase and writing to your MP, using your own words explaining the impact that your new rates bill will have. Emails about how this will affect your business do work, especially when they are a part of a wider campaign, it reinforces what is being said and adds power to the argument, so get writing! Please tweet using the hashtag #londonbisrates and include @eastendtrades twitter handle.
Email your MP before the budget on 8th March and ask them to lobby the Chancellor to increase the relief threshold in the capital, and to revise the transitional relief proposals, to give small businesses a realistic chance of planning for the rates increases caused by a seven year gap since the last revaluation. If you’re not sure who your MP is, you can find out here.
Help build the momentum, because together we are stronger!
