Malissa & James Brown from Pressed & Folded join us for our Small Business Saturday Christmas Market on 7th December!
Ever wondered who designed our handsome logo? It was the talented James Brown who generously donated the design to the Guild all the way back in 2012. We were connected to James by our good friend The Gentle Author who was instrumental in the establishment of our organisation and who still supports us to this day. We’re proud to boast James as a founder member of the Guild and delighted to introduce Pressed and Folded a second enterprise created together with his equally accomplished wife Malissa.
Malissa and James will be bringing their bold venture to our Christmas Market on 7th December at Old Spitalfields from 11 to 5. Look no further for beautiful and distinctive Christmas cards, wrapping paper and prints along with exquisitely designed books by James from Walker, the ideal gift for curious and enquiring minds.
What’s the story of Pressed and Folded Malissa?
In 2015 James asked me if I wanted to start a greeting card business with him, so after some thought I said yes! I had been working as a textile designer for many years and Pressed and Folded was the perfect way to move into a new creative industry.
James’s work as a printmaker and illustrator gives our collection a bold and graphic look that work well with the abstract patterns I design.
A lot of people ask what’s it’s like working together? Well, so far so good! It helps that we are always working on different things. We launched our first card range in 2016 and now, nearly four years on, we are stocking many of our favourite stores around the UK and beyond, from small independents and bookshops to gallery and museum shops. We’ve recently had the privilege of working on exclusive designs for the Royal Opera House and the Science Museum.
Christmas is always an exciting time for us as we get a chance to sell our products directly to our customers at the many festive markets around town. Along with our prints, wrap and card ranges we will also be selling James’s books, including his newly published book A World of Plants. Come and say hi!
As a small business, being a member of the EETG is very important to us. We feel we’re part of a strong community that is mutually supportive and tackles the issues affecting independent businesses today.
