Small Business Saturday is a national annual event on 3rd December, now in its fourth year. We are launching our own local, self styled East End Independents’ Day on the same day and have invited Mayor Khan to join us!
September has been action packed, with well attended members meetings across four neighbourhoods about our event, and another in Walthamstow this Thursday! Thanks to everyone who made it along, together we will make East End Independents’ Day a fantastic celebration. Our collective action will simultaneously drive business to our community and help create traction on the issues that affect our members and their communities.
We have also been busy working with members Splice TV & Film, Small Axe and E.Pellicci to create a digital invitation to Sadiq Khan, asking him to join us for breakfast on East End Independents’ Day. The video stars Anna and Nevio Pellicci from one of London’s most cherished small businesses and one of our founding members. Huge thanks to the talented trio – Alice Backham, Anda Coca Cozma and Lauren Quinn from members Splice TV & Film who’ve done a fabulous job filming and editing our video. Since posting the film yesterday we’ve had 3000 views and 60 shares on FaceBook and lots of activity on Twitter too! As yet we’ve not had an RSVP.
Please help us to make sure we can show Mayor Khan a proper East End welcome by sharing our video far and wide! Here’s the link you need – http://bit.ly/2dk2IB2
During Mayor Khan’s campaign, he stated that he would be the most pro-business Mayor London has ever seen, so the members of the EETG hope to discuss the issues of high rents and rates in the capital on Small Business Saturday and put forward some solutions over breakfast.
Globalisation is threatening to make the East End bland and homogeneous, by displacing even the most viable of small independents. The members of the EETG help to make sure that ‘London is open’ and are keen to give the Mayor a proper East End welcome and begin a working relationship to tackle the urgent issues that stunt sustainable and inclusive growth.
